Shoe

Description
Leather shoe. The upper of this shoe is quite degraded. It would have been black and had two flaps across the front secured with a large pewter or silver buckle (depending on the status of the owner). The sole however is in good condition and looks completely unworn. The heel is fixed with small wooden pegs and a set of three punch marks down the sole are on the site of three nail holes made during its construction. These may originally have been filled with wax to prevent water leaking into the shoe. The letters ‘IA’ are stamped into the leather of the sole.
