Button

Description
One piece brown bone circular button with hole present for attachment to clothes, numerous scrapes present and damage to rim of button. Drilled eye was carved or moulded directly onto the back of the button shank, referred to as having a 'self-shank.' The shank style left the button’s face totally free: a tiny blank canvas one could cover, carve, polish, or paint with luxurious abandon. Shank buttons have a hollow protrusion on the back through which thread is sewn to attach the button. Buttons with shanks have no holes in the button blank (the main part of the button) itself because they are not needed for sewing. Buttons with shanks are more expensive to produce than shankless buttons.
