Tool Handle

Description
Cylindrical handle flaring out slightly at each end. Three lines scored around circumference in the middle. Groove cut out of one side, going halfway through its width. Two holes on other side, going all the way through.

Tool handle. The steel blade has long since corroded away. The ships carpenter had the important role of maintaining and repairing the ship’s hull, decks and masts, this was an ongoing task throughout a voyage and would have included repairs following storm and battle damage. The carpenter would have had a store room for keeping spare wood and a crew of up to ten men.
