Box

Description
An oak box constructed using dovetail joints, with a lower drawer and pine dividers. The lid is missing. The divided compartments make partitions small and not suitable for large tools, and therefore it would seem unsuitable for use as a tool chest; it was however quite common for medicine chests to have a compartmentalised upper section and a drawer in the lower section. Possibly an 18th century Physician's medicine cabinet. The cabinets were carried on board ship and into battle and were considered portable hospitals.
