Button
Description
Dark grey metal, King’s royal symbol is present on the front of the button as well as the number ‘57,’ curved front with a smooth back. The reverse contains a broken section of the fastening section. It is circular one slightly domed in shape (57th regiment of foot). From Admiralty letters and requests, individual officers of 57th made their way to Gibraltar. It is more than likely the Invincible headed southwards with possible calls in Spain and the Canaries, where officers could disembark and make their way onward to Gibraltar.
