Button

Description
Circular grey/black metal button with attachment fixing on back in form of raised stud. Underside circular stud is in centre of button – possibly incomplete as attachment loop not present. Button has slightly concave surface, with design of two shields - one with portcullis, one with three sabres – crown above both shields - and letters ‘RWM’ below. RWM is thought to stand for ‘Royal Westminster Militia’, a most unusual design. Militia officers are known to have volunteered during the Napoleonic Wars for service in line regiments, it may be that this practise happened in earlier wars as well.
