Euphore Block

Description
A euphroe block, or a centipede as it was also known, is an elongated hardwood batten with a number of holes through it. A groove is carved around the outer edge to receive the strap which secures them to the stay. The purpose of the euphroe block was to be a centre point so that light ropes could be secured in a fan shape to suspend an awning or sails. The arrangement is known as a crowfoot. This block is engraved with the numerals ‘XXVIII’ which stands for 28 inches; the length of the block.
