Button, 59th Regiment

Description
Dark grey metal, King’s royal symbol is present on the front of the button as well as the number ‘59,’ curved front with a smooth back. The 59th Regiment were not serving in North America. However, by 1958 it had become the 57th Regiment of foot. From Admiralty letters and requests, individual officers of the 6th, 13th, 14th and 57th made their way to Gibraltar. It is more than likely the Invincible headed southwards with possible calls in Spain and the Canaries, where officers could disembark and make their way onward to Gibraltar. Passages for officers going to North America, India and Jamaica were also requested which, along with the others, may explain the number of different regimental buttons found.
