Cartridge Holder

Description
Curved, wooden cartridge holder, dark brown. Most holders are intact. Damage to right side of label holders around rims, spot damage to left side wood.

A musket cartridge holder. The cartridges were made of paper and filled with pre-measured gunpowder. The leather cover has the crest of George II (1727 - 60) stamped on it. Its recovery provided one of the first clues to the date of the HMS Invincible shipwreck. This cartridge holder would have been used in conjunction with the cartridge cover holder INV 68.
