Stool Bed

Description
Carved rectangular wooden object, dark brown in colour, the object has a concave middle section to the upper surface and two recessed bolt holes 60mm and 70mm in from each end. Either side of that the bolt holes are drilled through to the bottom. The base has a rectangular section removed from the two edges facing the sides. (Approx 12mm deep) of 212 and 222mm respectively. The ends of the base are rounded off where they meet the verticals. The base also has characters ‘VX’ carved into it between the drilled holes. Natural wood grain and knots are visible on all surfaces.

The gun carriage stool bed was the base for the wedges (quoins) used to elevate or depress the angle of the gun barrel when aiming the gun.
