HMS Bulwark Flag

Description
Section of the White Ensign flown on HMS Bulwark – extensively damaged from the explosion that sank her and killed most of her crew on 26th November 1914. Off Sheerness when the explosion – blamed on faulty cordite charges completely destroyed the ship leaving only 12 survivors.
Bulwark was built at Devonport, a London Class Battleship, 1899.
Parts of the ship were strewn all over after the explosion. Some of the crew are buried at the Medway Cemetery.
Purchased by Sir R Keyes, RN in the 1980s at a Wallis & Wallis auction. Admiral of the Fleet? Keyes took command of the Eighth Submarine Flotilla at Harwich on the outbreak of war in 1914.

Flag has been glued to a cotton fabric in the past to support the badly damaged, fragmented and burnt flag.
