Spokeshave (Brass)

Description
The metal spokeshave began to appear in the mid 1800's as metal casting techniques were refined. It then became the tool of choice for small planing jobs and forming shaped wood articles such as spindles for furniture, paddles, spars etc. This metal spokeshave is made of brass with an internal steel blade. It was this rigid structure that gave certainty to the outcome of the planing action and led to the spokeshave being a favoured tool in the shipwrights tool chest.
