Shipwrights Tool Chest

Description
Generally used as a tool chest by the Shipwright in the workshop. They were of a robust construction to carry a range of tools which would have been a heavy loading. Typically the handles would be made of rope, and the boxes painted, not varnished, in sombre and hardwearing colours often black. The interiors of the chests were fitted with shelves and a few drawers and wooden cleats for saws fitted into the top of the lid.

Chest fitted with rope handles, and 12 metal corner plates. Inside the lid are four cleats for saws, in the body of the box are two removable drawers, one lengthways and one width ways. Inside the chest two small half round files, and sundry screws and nails were found. This chest also belonged to 'G.W.Philips' whose name can very faintly be seen painted on the front of the chest.
