HMS Gannet (1878)

Description
HMS Gannet. Launched in 1878 at Sheerness Royal Dockyard, Gannet is an Doterel- class sloop. She is powered by both sail and steam. The Doterel was intended as an improvement of the Osprey-class sloops. Gannet has a composite construction with wooden planks over an iron framed hull.

In 1968, Gannet was put under the care of the Maritime Trust. She was restored in 1987 at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, and is now part of the UK's National Historic Fleet. Registration number 505.
